First visit to Local Joint: What to expect and how to prepare

With the boom of the cannabis industry in Arizona, there are new customers popping up and visiting dispensaries. If you’ve never been to one you may not know what to expect. Whether you’re a seasoned cannabis user or it’s your first time in a shop, it can be intimidating walking into a new dispensary. Each dispensary has its own unique menu, layout, environment, and more. If it’s your first time at Local Joint, below are some things to expect.

  1. You will be carded

Arizona is a medical and recreational cannabis state and Local Joint is able to to cater to all customers and their needs. Before coming to shop, be sure to have the appropriate ID. Recreational customers must have a government issued, valid ID showing that you’re 21+. First time Medical patients will need to present two forms of ID: an Arizona issued Medical Marijuana Card and a government issued ID.

If you are looking at getting a medical cannabis card, you can visit our FAQ page to see how you become a medical patient.

  1. There might be a wait

Depending on the time of day that you visit, there could be a waiting period before and after checking in with the front desk. At Local Joint, there are two separate lines: one for medical patients and one for recreational customers. While we try to keep our wait times short, there’s always a possibility that you may have to wait. If you are unsure of what you are looking for, the waiting time may give you an opportunity to take a look at our online menu and see what products you might be interested in trying.

  1. You’ll need cash

Dispensaries are a cash only business. If you have a budget set, it may be best to pull money out before going to our dispensary so you know your spending limit walking in. If you don’t have a set budget, or you didn’t bring as much money as you need, there’s nothing to worry about. Local Joint has an ATM on site. While Local Joint doesn’t charge any additional ATM fees, your personal bank may charge a fee for pulling money out of an ATM that isn’t associated with them.

  1. Be honest

Whether you’re in the shop for back pain, insomnia, decreased appetite, or for recreational use, your Patient Consultant is there to help you find products that fit any and all of your needs. They will ask you questions to see what you’re there for, what kind of products you like to use, your experience level and more. Be prepared for Patient Consultants to give you advice based on their personal experiences. Whether it’s your first time in our dispensary, or your first time in any dispensary, our Patient Consultants want to help you figure out how to best meet your needs.

If you are unsure of a certain product or strain, ask your Patient Consultant. They have their preferred methods of consuming, their favorite strain, their favorite brand and more. Some Patient Consultants have different needs than you, so if you are looking for something specific make sure you let them know and make sure to let them know if their recommendations might not work for your needs.

In case you are stuck on what direction you want to take when it comes to your cannabis consumption, check out “How to talk to your patient consultant” for tips on questions to ask  before your first visit.

  1. Check out Leafly & their website

Looking at the menu before your visit can help you see what vendors, products, and strains Local Joint offers and at what price points. Our online menu and Leafly menu are the most up to date on what products are currently available at any given time.

  1. They’ll give a quick tour of the shop

Our dispensary is filled with colorful art and displays of our vendors. When your Patient Consultant brings you back to shop, they’ll show you around and highlight some of the products and brands that we showcase. You’ll also be guided to reading materials that we offer including our First Time Patient handbook, Cannabis Cactus magazines, Grow Sciences educational materials and more. If you find yourself loving a particular piece of art, inside or outside of our building, feel free to snap a picture and if you post it on social media, tag us and use #keepitlocal!

  1. Enjoy your first trip!

While it may seem like a lot to think about before your first visit to the dispensary, it’s important to remember to have fun and enjoy the trip. This should be a zero pressure experience. Our Patient Consultants are there to be a friendly face in the midst of all of the decision making, so make sure to ask as many questions as you want. They’re there to make sure you get all of the information you need while making every experience a positive one.
